Samsung wants to know if Galaxy owners prefer Qi2 magnets over thin phones

Samsung hasn’t fully adopted Qi2 in Galaxy smartphones yet, with the focus instead seemingly being on making phones thinner. In a new survey, though, Samsung is directly asking users if they’d prefer proper Qi2 support over a thinner smartphone.

Through the Samsung Members app (as noted by SammryGuru), Samsung is currently running a survey of Galaxy owners which, among other things, directly asks about Qi2 support. The first question asks if having “Qi2 (like MagSafe)” would “reduce any inconvenience” if the device were to only support charging via wireless charging methods.

But in other questions, Samsung asks regarding if users want magnets built into their phone at the expense of the device being thinner. The question asks:

Would you prefer to have magnets built into the phone even if it made the phone thicker?

  • If the phone becomes thicker, I prefer not to have magnets
  • Prefer adding magnets even if it makes the phone thicker (within 0.3mm)
  • Prefer adding magnets even if it makes the phone thicker (within 0.5mm)
  • Magnets must be included regardless of the increase in thickness

As it stands today, Samsung has opted to offload the magnets to one of its official cases, as well as relying on third-party brands to add the functionality. The Galaxy S25 series and the company’s new foldables are “Qi 2.1.0” certified, but they leverage “Qi2 Ready” to skip having the magnets inside of the phones themselves.

It’s good to know that the company is at least considering the idea of having magnets built in, but this survey is still a long ways away from actually implementing this change.
