After announcing in May at The Android Show: I/O Edition, Google is now beginning to roll out Gemini for Wear OS.
Replacing Google Assistant, Gemini on Wear OS accepts the same prompts as on your phone. This allows for more natural and conversational queries, with access to Gemini apps/extensions being the biggest upgrade.
Your watch can now handle complex tasks that once required multiple steps on your phone.
Like before, you can launch with the “Hey Google” hotword, long-pressing on the side button, or tapping a Gemini app on your watch face. The initial screen features the sparkle icon and a four-color waveform/semi-circle that turns blue as you issue a command.
You’ll see a voice transcript, with prompts that access apps throwing up a “Connecting…” screen that has the logo. Gemini can respond with text, images, and voice. Example prompts include:
General
- “For how long should I roast sliced vegetables, and at what temperature?”
- “Do I need an umbrella today?”
- “Send a message to Nadja apologizing for running late”
Memory
- “Remember I’m using locker 43 today”
- “Remember I parked on level 4, spot 27.”
- “Remind me to go grocery shopping after work.”

Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, etc.)
- “Where’s the coffee place Emily emailed me about?”
- “Summarize my last email from Emily”
- “Add my son’s next five baseball games to my calendar”
- “What is the address for my dentist appointment today? Navigate there.”
YouTube Music
- “Create a playlist for a 10-minute-mile run”
Just make sure each integration is enabled in the Gemini app > Apps on your phone to access on Wear OS.
Gemini is rolling out “over the coming weeks” to Wear OS 4+ on the Pixel Watch, Samsung, OnePlus, OPPO, Xiaomi, and other wearables. With Wear OS 6, Gemini will “include support with your watch brand’s own apps, so you can keep using the apps you use everyday.”
