Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16 will launch before the end of September

Nothing has confirmed that its Android 16 update, Nothing OS 4.0, will be available before the end of September.

Google released Android 16 earlier than usual this year which has led to the usual schedule being a bit thrown out of whack in terms of knowing when Android brands will release their updates. Nothing, not usually known for the speediest major Android updates, has confirmed that it will release its Android 16 update before the end of September.

Alongside the launch of Nothing Phone (3) this week, Nothing has also teased that Nothing OS 4.0 will be launching as the company’s Android 16 update sometime in “Q3.”

That tease is presumably referring mainly to Phone (3), but it’s reasonable to assume that prior Nothing Phone releases will follow closely behind, though the exact timeline there is uncertain.

Still, this is faster than prior updates. Nothing didn’t start rolling out Android 15 until the very end of 2025, but the rollout only took a few weeks to reach all devices.

As for what “Nothing OS 4.0” will bring to the table, we’ll have to wait and see…
