Someone modded their Galaxy Watch to look like a Panerai, and it only cost $1,200

Some think that Galaxy Watches need to be more stylish, and that Samsung needs to do more. Others take things into their own hands. This one user turned his Galaxy Watch into a Panerai timepiece, and it only cost $1,200.

Panerai watches have a very distinct look, with the Luminor being one of the most popular models. They’re built with a rounded square case and circular bezel with a recognizable crown guard that jutts out to the side. These models come in at anywhere from $8,000 to $18,000.

One user decided they wanted that look, but with all of the tech packed into a Galaxy Watch 4. A few DIY attempts and one visit to a professional watchmaker later, and the result is a Panerai with a completely digital face.

The Galaxy Watch mod looks incredibly well done. The modder notes that it took a bit of trial and error on their end. The process took several days, and the result was poor. Taking it to a watchmaker costs more, but the end result is well executed.

The crown supposedly works as Samsung intended, even though Panerai’s proprietary crown construction is tasked with signal input.

According to the user on Reddit, the labor and parts cost $1,200 to convert their nearly four-generation-old Galaxy Watch into a Panerai-esque timepiece. The watch itself was around $350 brand-new, and that isn’t factored in. Still, if you’re really into merging smartwatch tech with classic aesthetics, you now know it’s possible.

Samsung has reservations open now for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 series, with a $50 credit when you pre-order and a free entry for a chance to win $5,000. Reservations are free, and there’s no obligation to actually buy a device if you sign up, but there’s no other time you can get that $50 credit.
