The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is certainly going to be an exceptional device, as long as it improves on performance and offers as thin a build as Samsung says it will. To hype the phone up, Samsung keeps using the word “Ultra” when referring to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, even though it appears nowhere in the phone’s actual branding.
The “Ultra” appears in Samsung’s newest teaser trailer. The video simply shows two thin slabs, animated to incredibly familiar music. The slabs split into two portions of the screen, and one takes on the silhouette of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The phrase “Ultra Unfolds” immediately follows.
This isn’t the first time Samsung has used the “Ultra” branding for the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It’s appeared in previous teasers that specifically push the moniker.
For some time, it was thought that Samsung would develop a Galaxy Z Fold Ultra and a Fold 7, though that rumor has largely been put to bed. Similarly, it was thought that Samsung may drop the numerical identifier and simply refer to the seventh-edition foldable as an “Ultra” variant.
Thanks to plenty of reliable leakers and sources, we can assume that the next foldable from Samsung will be the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
So, what makes it ultra?
There are a couple of reasons Samsung could be pushing the narrative. The first one is simple, and it’s that Samsung simply thinks this generational improvement is worthy of that adjective. It’s supposed to measure only 9mm thick when folded, which is no small feat and puts it toe-to-toe with other record-setting devices.
The other explanation, and the one we’re putting a little more stock into, is that Samsung is hiding a much larger announcement. If it is, it’s kept it under wraps incredibly well. Samsung could be alluding to rather large Galaxy AI announcements. So big, they have to use the term “Ultra” time and time again.
Samsung might be hiding something special
Samsung clearly thinks users want more from their devices, and they’d be correct. The Galaxy Z Fold series has lost some interest over time because it felt stagnant, even if it wasn’t entirely so.
Introducing some groundbreaking features would go a long way in revitalizing the device line. Samsung specifically mentions Galaxy AI in one of its teasers, after noting that the company wants to bring a significantly more impressive experience to users.
For years, Samsung has listened to users asking for bigger screens, better cameras and new ways to connect and create. The demand is clear — an Ultra-experience that goes beyond a simple list of upgraded features in a smaller and more portable form factor.
That’s why Galaxy’s next chapter is to provide an experience that seamlessly blends artistry and engineering to elevate everyday interactions.
…
With industry-leading hardware, cutting-edge performance and seamless AI integration optimized for the foldable format, it’s what users have come to expect from Galaxy Ultra.
Samsung has offered very little in the way of details on how “Ultra” the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be, and that’s why we’re picking apart teasers. This comes as Samsung has reportedly not decided on its upcoming Galaxy AI subscription. That, as a whole, is still an unknown. What we do know is that Galaxy AI will likely continue to be free for the remainder of the year.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip 7 FE are expected to launch on July 9. Samsung’s Galaxy Reserve campaign also just opened up, which lets users sign up to reserve a pre-order spot for free. That entry gets you a $50 credit and a chance to win $5,000, so it’s worth it even if you don’t plan on buying the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
