New Android 14 update for Chromecast with Google TV rolling out

Back in March, Android 14 for the Chromecast with Google TV started rolling out after missing it’s expected 2024 deadline. There were some issues and Google pulled the OTA. A new Android 14 update for the Chromecast is now rolling out.

UTTC.241218.008.H1.13427172 (versus UTTC.241218.004) is rolling out to both those that installed the initial Android 14 update (small patch) and Chromecast with Google TV devices still on Android 12 (large download). It remains on the January 2025 security patch.

This software update includes:

  • Upgrade Android TV version from 12 to 14
  • The Google TV Streamer Voice Remote supports Find My Remote and Customizable Button
  • Security Patch Updates to January 2025
  • System Stability and Improvements

Initial user reports note a fix for not being able to use external drives/storage and a fix for Settings crashing in certain menus. There are reports of Ethernet adapters and USB debugging/ADB still not working after this patch.
