Recent reports indicate that Samsung is starting to ramp up production of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This is a complete turnaround from what was originally reported in early June.
Earlier this month, it was understood that Samsung was prepared to slow down manufacturing for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, expecting to sell fewer devices than in previous years. That original estimate would have reflected the initial production run and not included later production numbers across the following months.
According to a new report, Samsung is changing its tune a little (via The Elec). The company looks to be ramping up production of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 for the US market during the month of July. That number has apparently jumped from the original official estimates.
Samsung estimated around 930,000 units of both foldables by the end of June. Heading into July, the numbers aren’t precise, but they are reportedly significantly higher and heading into August.
There could be a couple of reasons for the jump. One major threat is tariffs that could go into effect. By producing and shipping a large number of Z Fold 7 devices into the US during those early stages, Samsung may be hoping to avoid any inflated income tax.
Samsung may also be estimating that interest in its Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 devices is strong, even though some research firms have reportedly noted that the foldable market is in decline. Galaxy Z Fold 6 sales suffered last year, though we’d have to imagine a large part of that was an apparent lack of innovation between generations.
The same report also claims that the Galaxy S25 Edge saw poor sales amid what was an exciting change, on paper. The company has already begun making production cuts for the device.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are likely to launch on July 9.
