Philips Hue launches new ‘Wall Washer’ light, AI-powered scene generation coming soon

Philips Hue is launching a new “Wall Washer” light that is designed to fill a wall with light, and it’s arriving ahead of support for AI-powered scene generation.

Available for purchase starting today, the Philips Hue Play Wall Washer joins the lineup as more of a projection light than a typical bulb or lightstrip. It can fill a wall using the company’s new “ColorCast” tech.

Featuring a wide illumination area and surprisingly compact design, the Play wall washer is the ultimate TV enhancement. ColorCast technology and a sleek aluminum design make it the perfect colorful accent for your home theater (or anywhere else).

Philips says that the Wall Washer provides “truly immersive surround lighting experiences.”

The Wall Washer is sold in a 1-pack for $219.99 as well as a 2-pack for $384.99, the bundle offering a discount of around 12%. You can pick between black and white colors too, with the hardware being made from aluminum.

Meanwhile, Philips says that a generative AI assistant is coming to its app “by the end of August” for the US and Canada. Through text or voice, the app will either be able to recommend a lighting scene, or generate a brand new one. “Later this year” it will also be able to create schedules/automations and offer in-app support.

At the beginning of 2025, Philips Hue announced its first generative AI assistant. The AI assistant understands context to bring AI-powered lighting to life. Users simply type or speak their mood, style, or occasion, and the assistant instantly recommends an existing scene or generates a new one if there’s no good match or the user requests it.
