The reboot of Pebble smartwatches is nearing its release, as the “Core 2 Duo” will begin shipping next month, and there’s also some good news for original Pebble owners as well.
In a blog post this week, original Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky provides a handful of updates around his “Core Devices” company and the reboot of the Pebble smartwatch. Migicovsky explains that a beta test of the Core 2 Duo will see 200 customers get their watch early, while the new iOS and Android app is also launching in beta soon.
The new app is mainly designed for the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Time (the latter is said to be “on schedule”), but it also works with older Pebble hardware including the Pebble 2 and Pebble Time series.
Migicovsky says:
You can join the test even if you didn’t pre-order a Core 2 Duo – if you have an old working Pebble Time (Steel/Round) or Pebble 2 watch, you can join the beta to help test the new iOS and Android mobile app. Our new new app works with your old Pebble!
Interested Pebble owners can sign up for the beta test here, but not everyone will get in.
Core 2 Duo pre-orders will be shipping “in July and August” with an email being sent to customers later this month to confirm shipping details and to clarify payment for any added tariffs, duties, etc for each country.
