Latest Galaxy S25 update sets the phone up for One UI 8

Even though it feels like Samsung just launched the current version of One UI, One UI 8 is already seemingly around the corner. A new update to the Galaxy S25 sets the phone up to receive Samsung’s next-gen software.

Samsung has officially pushed June’s security update to the Galaxy S25 series. That update includes changes for the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra. Alongside the general boosts in security and small changes to the system, there lies a significant change under the hood.

The June 2025 update introduces Samsung’s new bootloader (via SamMobile). This update switches the Galaxy S25 over to bootloader version 4, which locks it into firmware compatibility with updates going forward. In essence, there’s almost no turning back for the Galaxy S25.

The update itself doesn’t include any bits of One UI 8, but the introduction of a new bootloader version means we’re getting closer to the next version. The same version is found in the company’s internal testing models of One UI 8, which puts the Galaxy S25 series one step closer.

The security update to the Galaxy S25 series is currently being rolled out in Korea, with more regions to follow shortly.

Samsung has been rumored to launch One UI 8, based on Android 16, in July. This is likely to coincide with the company’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 launch, or at least come sometime soon after.
