Google Maps will get a new look to match your car, starting with Polestar

Google Maps may soon have a new look in your car to match its native OS with a new Android Automotive ability that will start with Polestar vehicles.

Android Automotive OS already allows carmakers to craft an experience that suits their own design aesthetic. So far, no two brands have quite the same look for this platform, but apps still remain the same. That’s soon to change, though.

Google Maps for Android Automotive will soon be able to tailor parts of its design to match the rest of your car, a change that will arrive first on Polestar vehicles as announced at SXSW London and shared on LinkedIn. Maps will swap out its rounded UI elements and default colors with changes that better fit in with the rest of Polestar’s software. This includes redesigned buttons as well as orange accent colors.

The changes are pretty readily visible in the image shared by Polestar compared to the design pictured above.

Polestar says that these changes are rolling out to “all Polestars in the coming weeks.” It’s unclear when, if at all, other carmakers will see similar changes, but it stands to reason that this is just the beginning.
