Google TV is finally preparing sleep timer support as app readies Material 3 Expressive [Gallery]

Google TV seems like it is finally preparing to support the sleep timer that it has lacked for far too long, while the mobile app is readying Material 3 Expressive elements.

Personally, I’ve been wanting a sleep timer on Google TV for years. It’s a feature that some TV manufacturers have added to the experience, but that the OS has yet to implement on its own.

Apparently, it’s around the corner.

In the latest Google TV Home update – the app that powers the homescreen – the folks over at Android Authority spotted some references to a sleep timer. This includes showing how long until the timer turns off, the ability to pause or cancel the timer, and a message that appears if the sleep timer fails to turn off your Google TV device.

Further references to this were found, hinting that notifications may appear to update the user on the status of the sleep timer.

None of this is live at the moment but, as mentioned, it’s overdue.

Also in the works for Google TV, it seems, is a Material 3 Expressive makeover for the Google TV app on Android. This is rather minor in the grand scheme, though, with some simple button accents and a bit more color throughout the app compared to what exists today. It’s a far cry from some of the other Expressive app redesigns that Google has shown off. With that in mind, we suspect this is probably unfinished, and just laying the foundation.
