Google Maps has stopped showing alternate routes on app, Android Auto for some

An issue with Google Maps as of late has left users without the ability to see alternate routes on the mobile app and car platforms such as Android Auto.

Over the past couple of weeks, some Google Maps users have noticed that the app is no longer showing alternate routes while driving to a location. Usually, Maps shows routes that are a few minutes faster or slower compared to your current route by highlighting another upcoming road that you can take.

Lately, those suggestions have not been appearing.

Users across Google’s forums and Reddit have been running into the issue across the Google Maps app for mobile devices, as well as the Android Auto experience. We can also confirm that Google Maps has suddenly stopped showing alternate routes on our Pixel 9 Pro Fold connected via Android Auto as well.

The cause of this is unclear, but it’s very likely a software issue in recent app updates, or something on Google’s end. We’ve been unable to confirm if the same issue is affecting Google Maps for CarPlay. On CarPlay, though, some users have run into problems with Google Maps being laggy.
