Google ended the The Android Show with a teaser about Android XR glasses, and how I/O 2025 attendees will be able to demo the new form factor.
Android head Sameer Samat ended the event by cheekily putting on Android XR sunglasses, with a camera lens visible at the right. To date, the live prototypes we’ve seen had clear lenses that emphasize day-to-day usage in all environments, including indoors.
Those invited to attend I/O 2025 will be able to get a demo of the glasses. Google let members of the press go hands-on with the form factor in December, while there was a live on-stage demo in April.
The I/O experience should be the largest audience Android XR glasses have had so far Google is definitely ramping up awareness and building up excitement about the new category of augmented reality devices. That said, don’t expect a launch anytime soon.
Android XR will first debut on headsets. That’s expected to happen later this year with Samsung, and I/O will first bring more developer updates. (Today, we got another look at Gemini on headsets.) The OEM has shown off what the hardware will look like, but we still don’t have any other details or pricing.
