Samsung is just coming out of the release of One UI 7, where a few road bumps made things a little more difficult than likely planned. According to new reports, the first beta version of One UI 8, based on Android 16, might launch sometime this month, as hard as that might be to believe.
Android 16 for Galaxy devices was expected to become available via a beta version sometime after Samsung launches its Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 during an Unpacked event. That timeframe put the One UI 8 release sometime around July, which would have given Samsung some time to regroup after the One UI 7 rollout.
According to a new report from SamMobile, Samsung’s One UI 8, or Android 16, could be released to some devices towards the end of this month. The Android 16 beta program will be selective and will be released to specific devices in certain regions first.
We could potentially see a portion of time where the Android 16 beta is available for Galaxy S25 devices in Korea first, with a rollout to Europe and the US some time after. That expanded rollout could happen in June.
Details have already started to show through the cracks, with features like AI Video Summary, advanced DeX, and the possibility of more VRAM. There is still a lot that remains unknown, and even an initial beta version would uncover all of it.
It also goes without saying that Samsung has to get this launch right. Another set of delays could have a ripple effect down the line of future OS developments. With the supposedly early Android 16 beta launch upcoming this month, Samsung is likely trying to get ahead of things to create space for potential setbacks.
