Samsung’s Wear OS updates typically take on the naming scheme as the company’s Android updates, but the next Galaxy Watch update is apparently not going to be called “One UI 7 Watch.”
Current Galaxy Watch releases are running on top of Wear OS, but with a skin called “One UI Watch.” The One UI 6 Watch release debut alongside the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra in 2024, quite a bit ahead of One UI 7’s release… well, last month.
It seems that colliding circumstances are going to lead to the Galaxy Watch soon running One UI 8 Watch instead of One UI 7, as Samsung is pushing things forward with its Android 16 update.
Discovered by @DevOfIpos on Twitter/X and backed up by sources speaking to SamMobile, Samsung is apparently skipping straight to One UI 8 Watch from the current One UI 6 Watch. This is purely a naming change from the looks of it, but there have been some rumors of UI changes. SamMobile says that its sources added that One UI 8 Watch will include “more colorful” aspects to match One UI 7, and soon enough One UI 8, on Galaxy phones. The naming change does make sense, as this update will likely debut alongside Samsung’s next Galaxy Watch which is due around the time of new foldables, which is when One UI 8 is expected to be unveiled.
This update is also said to be based on Android 16 for Wear OS. Google recently rolled out Wear OS 5.1 which is based on Android 15, so it does seem like Wear OS 6 is on the horizon. A beta of this new version surfaced last month.
