Samsung’s RAM Plus is essentially a solution to a limited amount of memory by offering virtual RAM. In One UI 8, the amount of RAM Plus each device will be allowed is going to be increased, which means faster and more capable devices.
One of the biggest complaints we had about the Galaxy S25 series was the stagnation in memory across generations. The Galaxy S25 Ultra brought 12GB of RAM to the table, doing nothing to widen the gap between itself and the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which also housed 12GB of RAM. It was initially though Samsung might offer more virtual RAM, or RAM Plus, but that didn’t seem the case.
However, it looks like Samsung is positioning itself to offer more virtual RAM. According to a report from SamMobile, One UI 8 increases the RAM Plus limit from a mere 8GB. Where One UI 7 allows 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB, the settings in One UI 8 appear to offer a fourth 12GB option.
The immediate benefit of having 12GB of RAM Plus on hand in One UI 8 means more active apps in the background. Modern smartphones tend to demand that apps are running even when they’re hiding, and the more virtual RAM available, the more background processes can be free to run without bogging down performance. Samsung does this by utilizing the phone’s internal storage to create that virtual memory.
One UI 8 isn’t expected for some time, as One UI 7 is only just becoming fully available for Galaxy users. When it does come around, it’s looking like it will be a small update that offers tweaks to features like RAM Plus.
