Wild rumor claims Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be impossibly thin, Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 coming

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 might be a bit thinner than originally expected, but the rumor claiming that thinner profile is a bit hard to believe.

The Galaxy Z Fold series has become almost a mockery in the foldable space, as Samsung’s early lead has been eclipsed by massive technical leaps forward by competing devices from Oppo, Honor, and others. Samsung’s next release, Galaxy Z Fold 7, is expected to close that gap by quite a lot, with the foldable dropping from the Fold 6’s 12.1mm profile (when folded) down to just 9.5mm. Not quite the thinnest in the world, but close enough.

But if a new rumor is to be believed, Samsung might just be going for the world title.

Greek publication Techmaniacs cites “very reliable sources” (translated) and claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will measure just 8.2mm when folded. That’s not only much thinner than previously claimed – which includes the CAD-based renders that surfaced a few months ago – but also a world record by a healthy margin, coming in at a thinner profile than the Oppo Find N5 that currently holds the title.

That’s important to note because it casts doubt on this claim. Oppo itself highlights how the Find N5 is barely thicker than its USB-C port, adding that it had to use “custom-designed” parts to make everything fit. That includes needing to reinforce the glass behind the port to keep the whole device structurally sound. The connector is 2.4mm thick, meaning the port has to be a fair bit larger. That’s not to say no one will ever make a thinner foldable, but it’s hard to imagine that Samsung has surpassed the 8.93mm profile of Find N5 by 0.7mm so quickly, especially given the company’s thinnest foldable to date was over 10mm thick.

The report goes on to claim that Galaxy Z Flip 7 will have a larger 4,300 mAh battery (as previously reported) and that Samsung will release a “new Galaxy Watch Ultra” with the same design, but more storage and a revamped Wear OS skin that’s closer visually to One UI 7 on Galaxy phones.

Again, take all of this with a grain of salt, especially seeing as the track record at play hasn’t been well established. The last time the publication made the rounds, it was for a Galaxy Z Flip 5 price leak.
