Gboard on Pixel now lets you ‘Browse’ Emoji Kitchen

After testing, Gboard is now widely rolling out an Emoji Kitchen redesign and Browse feature for Pixel devices.

Opening the Emoji keyboard in a compatible text field will reveal a slightly smaller Emoji Kitchen carousel. You’ll see a new arrow icon at the end instead of the usual settings gear.

Tapping takes you to “Browse” with a grid of Emoji Kitchen results. You can endlessly scroll through all the offerings and pull-to-refresh at the top to get more.

Tapping a combination shows what two characters were combined with the ability to “Send” (which inserts into your current text field).

Old vs. new

There’s an emoji FAB (floating action button) in the bottom-right corner that opens the usual pickler with recents history and a category picker at the bottom. After making a selection, you’ll see all the combos that make use of that character.

Gboard’s Emoji Kitchen Browse UI is exclusive to Pixel phones (and the Tablet). It was announced in December 2024 with the quarterly Feature Drop. Google has been testing this redesign in beta for the past few months, and we’re now seeing it widely rolled out with the stable Gboard 15.1 release.

This follows recent Gboard launches like the voice typing toolbar on all Android phones (though it was announced with the March 2025 Pixel Drop), undo/redo, and tweaked Dynamic Color theme.
