One UI 8 Weather app leak shows enhanced 3D elements and more

While we desperately await Samsung’s rollout of One UI 7, more details on the upcoming One UI 8 update have appeared, including a substantial Weather app update coming with Android 16.

The leak comes from Twitter with user @GerwinvGiessen showcasing a number of changes to the existing Weather app for the One UI 8 update. Most notable is the change from flat animations to add more 3D and interactive elements, including the addition of scenes to represent specific weather conditions.

Samsung is going to add more realistic animated avatars that will react to the forecast. For example, they may wear a jacket or have an umbrella if rain is expected in the location you’re currently tracking. What’s more, the 3D animated avatar will step into view more confidently than the current One UI 7 Weather app. You can see these changes from the current app to the proposed One UI 8 Weather app below:

That’s not all. There are some improved animations when gliding through specific areas of the One UI 8 Weather app. As we note, this looks like quite a substantial change to the current landing screen for the forecast tracker. However, all other areas appear to be identical and provide the same data points, such as precipitation, pollen count, and temperature, plus a brief overview of expected conditions.

With Samsung delaying One UI 7, it’s not clear when we’ll get the new Weather app as part of the One UI 8 update. Just when that will come is anyone’s guess at this stage. Google is expected to release the stable Android 16 update in Q3 2025, Samsung is also expected to provide smaller changes and tweaks per information in previously leaked builds.
