Xbox app for Android & iOS will soon be able to buy games, remote play moving to web

Microsoft has announced a slew of new Xbox updates this week, including support for buying games and Game Pass via the Android app.

Announced in a blog post, Microsoft says that the Xbox apps for Android and iOS will soon be able to buy games for their Xbox account (whether for streaming or console use) as well as add-on content and Game Pass. Players will also be able to redeem Perks via the mobile app. Microsoft says this will roll out in beta first on both platforms and will become broadly available later on.

The other notable announcement here is that Microsoft is expanding Xbox Remote Play to more platforms. Players will be able to stream their console through the web (including on mobile devices), Samsung and Amazon Fire TV devices, and Meta Quest. Games from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 are also now eligible for remote play streaming.

However, this comes as Remote Play is being removed from the Xbox mobile app altogether.
