Google releases Pixel Camera 9.8 patch update [U]

Google is rolling out an update to Pixel Camera 9.8 that presumably addresses some bugs. This is the first patch for the Pixel 9a following last week’s launch.

After updating everything last week, the Pixel 9a was running version 9.8.102.732237915.11, like every other Google device.

All 9a owners today are seeing 9.8.102.748116395.16 as a small 3~ MB download in the Play Store.

Update: Shortly after broad availability for the Pixel 9a, this Camera 9.8 update is now widely rolling out to all Pixel phones and tablets this afternoon.

Some people had issues with the new Macro Focus activating, with “Move back to improve focus” appearing. Compared to before (“Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9 and later”), it is now integrated into the main (wide) camera autofocus, and cannot be set to on, off, or auto in quick settings. It just kicks in when you’re 5 or so centimeters from an object, with the sunflower icon appearing in the top-left corner.

Meanwhile, there’s also an issue with the selfie camera preview flickering in low-light conditions. Your actual images aren’t impacted.

Google released Pixel Camera 9.8 in March with some small tweaks, while the update before that in December introduced Quick access controls

While the Pixel 9a is running Android 15 QPR1, it does have the Connected Cameras capability introduced with March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop
