After testing got underway in January, Gboard is now widely rolling out Undo and Redo buttons/shortcuts on Android.
Open the shortcuts menu for the new “Undo” button at the very end. To get the most utility, drag it to the suggestions row. A tap will immediately reverse the last action, while adding “Undo” and “Redo” — with accompanying icons — in the suggestions bar to make further edits. (They are grayed out if you can’t take any actions.)
The last action (like delete) is reversed one letter at a time, unless you removed the entire word or sentence.
There’s also Redo if you change your mind or added/removed too much. This feature’s history remains if you dismiss Gboard and open it again, while remaining on the text field/app. If you exit the application entirely, that memory is lost.
Undo and Redo are seeing wide stable availability with version 15.0 of Gboard for Android. It’s a great quality-of-life improvement for the Google keyboard.
This follows a handful of other changes in recent weeks, including the new shortcuts button and tweaks to Dynamic Color.
Google has also widely rolled out the voice typing toolbar on Android phones. This was announced with the March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop, but it’s available on all devices (though without Assistant voice typing). It was first introduced on the Pixel Tablet.
