Google has provided these incredible animated GIFs illustrating the Earth’s landscape changes over the decades for Time‘s Timelapse project.
The images show deforestation in the Amazon of Brazil, glaciers retreating in Alaska, and lakes drying up in Las Vegas sprawls as well as other landscapes.

These GIFs are certainly fascinating to view, but it’s also rather heartbreaking watching these changes happen to our planet over such a relatively small amount of time.
Google Earth images will likely continue to provide this insightful view on how human development affects the planet on which we live.
